I joined Heidelberg Materials’s ‘Graduate Trainee Manager’ scheme in October 2016. During the scheme I completed rotations across Heidelberg Materials’s major business lines and functions – aggregates, concrete, cement / GGBS, asphalt & contracting as well as a project rotation in strategy & development. During this time I was able to build a good network throughout the business – this is invaluable.

I am now a Territory Sales Manager for Heidelberg Materials’s concrete business line in Hertfordshire having been promoted in October 2019 from a District Sales Manager position. I look after the commercial aspect and customer management for 3 of Heidelberg Materials’s concrete plants which is giving me good exposure to the front line of the business – every day is busy and I have learnt a lot.

My advice for anyone joining the graduate scheme is to be proactive. Focus on networking as you move through the business and take the opportunities to get involved in projects and the like as much as you can – learn the business and find the areas that spark a light in you. The most important thing is to enjoy it!
