Pawel Zlocki, graduate land manager, Shepshed

I joined the graduate programme in 2017 after completing a BSc degree in construction project management at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and I’m now a graduate land manager based at Heidelberg Materials’s Shepshed office in Leicestershire.

My role in the lands and mineral resources department, which manages over 400 properties, is a national role so there are limitless opportunities to get involved in various aspects of estates management across the country.

My main focus is to support the land development manager in driving surplus land sales, producing development appraisals, reviewing documents and contracts, negotiating deals and undertaking site inspections. I also liaise with regional estate surveyors to assist with general property management and development planning.

One of the things I like most about the programme is the level of responsibility you are given from day one. Working at Heidelberg Materials makes you feel like a valued member of the team and allows you to take control of projects, with the help and support of more experienced colleagues.
It is a fast-paced environment but everyone is supportive and happy to share their knowledge and experience, which is invaluable.

Heidelberg Materials also provides a great range of training opportunities to develop your skills. The company is sponsoring my RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) membership and is supporting me in my journey to become a Chartered Minerals Surveyor at the end of the graduate programme.

Graduates have a high profile within Heidelberg Materials and are given all the tools and opportunities to kick-start their career. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a fast-paced, innovative environment.
